The satellite is about the size of a bus. This is not nearly big enough to cause a tsunami. You have nothing to worry about.

Nature boy has it right. There is absolutely nothing to get worried about.

Putting it in perspective, there's a lot better chance you'll be ripped to shreds by a pit bull belonging to your neighbor than that you'll ever see a tsunami of any origin during your lifetime.

Its only big enough to destroy your home with a direct hit, otherwise its not worth worrying about. Its smaller than the Columbia Space Shuttle, and nobody on the ground was injured by that even though it reentered over populated areas.

No tsunami. Honestly, people are so scared these days. Why do such small things get people so freaked out? Satellites reenter all the time. They all break up in the upper atmosphere and even if they didn't they would still be slowed to subsonic speed by air drag. And they are way too small to cause a tsunami. Way, Way, WAAAAAY to small. Smaller than airliners, and airline crashes at sea do not cause tsunamis.

You are about a billion times more likely to die or be injured in an auto/airplane accident on your way out of the state...so no, fleeing the state is a bad idea.

People have a terrible time assessing risk. After 9/11 millions of people were afraid to fly...so they drove instead. The result was that about a thousand people died in traffic accidents that would have been safely avoided had they flown instead.

The depth and breadth of the scientific ignorance exhibited by some posters on this forum continue to astonish me. Teachers, you're doin' a heckuva job!
