Default What is the average temperature of the Pacific Ocean in Washington State in the month of August?

Might be going for a visit this summer, looking to get a little cottage on the beach if the water is close to bearable!
EDIT: Devil, my bro lives in SoCal too. I tease him about wearing wetsuits to surf in June!

But, the temp has to be a teeny bit warmer than the Pacific Northwest I'd bet! How sad to have a beautiful ocean at your door and its too cold to enjoy!
My kids typically don't even get in, they just mess around digging for treasure, while the older boys practice picking up 'chics' by feigning as much disinterest as possible!

But, I just realized exactly how far that would be from Kent/Renton, so now I think I'll explore Lake Washington. We spent some time there a few summers ago, lake wasn't too cold, especially if you'd had a couple margaritas......

50 degrees and it is usually way to cold to swim...unless you are a polar bear.

It's not something to splash around and play in. It's still VERY VERY COLD......it doesn't get warm enough here to play in the Pacific Ocean. Although it is very pretty to live by.

I'm guessing pretty darn cold. I live in SoCal and I can barely stand the ocean temp even on the warmest days of summer, even this far south.

it gets HOT in Washington but the ocean is consistently cold... lakes are your best bet for splashing around.

i don't have a specific number for you, but i know that the ocean is COLD year round here in oregon--so i'm sure washington is cold as well (if not colder!). a full body wet suit is usually necessary if you want to go into the Pacific up here in the NW.

It's going to be cold. The Pacific Ocean up around the coast of Washington doesn't get to warm. If you want nice weather in Washington State travel to the other side of the mountains and rent a house boat on Lake Roosevelt. Gorgeous!!!! Call the Marina @ Two Rivers Casino for information. 1-800-722-4031. Former Washington Native....brrrr to the Pacific Ocean, I live on the Gulf of Mexico now, where the water in the summer hits about 87 degrees.

Yes, it's cold. And of course, the ocean isn't anywhere near Seattle. To get to the Pacific (not Puget Sound), it's a several hour drive.

The water on Puget Sound is cold too.

One alternative on Puget Sound that helps the water warm up a bit is Jetty Island in Everett. It's just off Everett marina, and the city parks and rec have a ferry that goes over from July 4 - Labor day I think.

it's a nature preserve with VERY limited facilities. But the beach allows for lots of shallow water, and because it's so shallow the sun warms up the water quite a bit. It's still not So-Cal warm, even in the height of summer, but it's the warmest I've seen up here.

It's not warm enough to swim in; but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the beach. The sand gets nice and warm, even if the water doesn't cooperate (we ARE further north than Maine, after all...). A cottage on the beach sounds great if you are able to find one. Enjoy your visit!
