Default What makes South Carolina different than the Pacific NW?

I hear it's warmer in the winter, people talk different, hurricanes... what else is there? (thinking of moving there since my company is relocating there; lived in Washington and Oregon all my life)

SC is not warm in the winter. I've never been to the pacific NW so i can't compare, but i can tell you what SC's like. I grew up there and was up there for Christmas and froze my a** off! We don't get snow, but we get bad ice every year. Sometimes the powerlines freeze and we get our equivalent to snow days without the fun of snow. I know SC isn't the coldest place in the US in the in the winter but noone who lives there would call it warm! It's HOT in the summer. Like sticky, humid hot! I live in South florida now and for some reason SC feels hotter in the summer than it is here.

SC can be fun if you live in the right place (a city as opposed to in thr boonies) and Charleston and Myrtle beach are exciting places to visit. People are pretty polite and friendly and southern cooking is the best. If you move there, you've gotta eat at a "Lizards Thicket"....It's a SC resteraunt chain that has the best southern food ever at "Waffle House" prices.

SC is a wonderful place to live, I miss it. **sniff**

I live in SC & have visited Seattle & Portland.

Weather:
During the winter months (Dec, Jan, Feb) we average highs in the 50s and low's in the 30s. I live in Columbia, we don't get much snow, but the upstate does. Everyone get's excited here when they call for it. As far as getting ice over snow, that's not really accurate. We get both but don't get either too much. Maybe one timea year. We got a little snow earlier this month.

What part of SC? I live in Columbia SC - I love our location because we are 1.5 hours from the beach & 1.5 hours from the mountains. It's nice being that close to both for weekend trips. Charleston is a beautiful city & would be a great place to live!

When I was out in the NW, everywhere I went someone commented on my accent. So, yes, you will notice a southern accent.

I agree - Lizard's Thicket is a great (Family Owned)restaurant!

Also, Cost of living in SC is going to be MUCH less than the NW.
