In the 2005 remake of South Pacific, why did the actors hold a book and read from it?
How come they didn't just memorize their lines? Also, was the play really about? I watched it today and I was confused.

They did it so that you'd KNOW it was a re-make.
Although, ALL scenes in ALL movies start out with Actors reading a book of lines.
