Keep in mind that this is, without a doubt, an asymmetrical war.

Some people consider WWIII to be a synonym for full-scale nuclear war.
And, on the other end of the spectrum, for the person dying their death is the end of the world. I'd say a worldwide movement of genocidal radicals to destroy perceived "enemies" and remake the planet in their image would count as a serious threat. No, they don't have the strength of a Hitler or a Soviet Union - yet. But in a nuclear age, they don't need it. they just need one or more nukes, or a mere credible threat of suing at least one, to make their mark. Do you really think some country in Westedn Europe wouldn't make concessions rather than risk losing a city of two? Yes, the threat is real. We don't need to wait until they're strong enough to follow through to counter it. |

This entire era might be considered World War 3 by historians in the future, especially if a very large scale war break out involving many nations. Or what is happening now could be considered events leading up to the war. World War 1 was not called World War 1 while they were fighting it, not until later on was it named that. Then again that seems kind of intuitive since by numbering your first war you are pretty much resigned to the fate that there will be another massive war in the future. So it is very possible that what is happening now if left unchecked will eventually be the beginning phase of World War 3.
Really in my opinion World War 1,2,3 should just be considered periods of higher activity during a long nearly 100 year war. So far all this is caused by not being able to tie up loose ends from previous encounters. Perhaps people will learn before it is too late? |
