Default Why do temperatures in the South Pacific feel higher than in the Northern Hemisphere?

I live in New Zealand, and visitors from Europe and the US are always amazed to see that our temperatures are actually much lower than they feel.
Yesterday, I was driving around with a visitor from Germany, and she continuously pointed out that the 16 degrees Celsius we currently have during the day felt more like 23 to 25 to her.
The reverse seems to be the case when it gets colder than 10 Celsius - then it seems to feel to them more like 2 to 4 degrees.
How is this possible?
Has someone else experienced this?

It has to do with the level of air humidity. I read it somewhere, but I forgot which way round it was. Either you feel warmth more when the air is wetter or you feel it less. Hm. I have to read it up again...

Hello, How are you in New Zealand, here in Turin (Italy) it's now raining and the temperature is around 8 degrees. The mountains are covered by 1 m. of snow, the winter is coming. I'm waiting for the first skiing day of the seson. The temperstures are changing in the world, but I thik this is the normal flow of the time age. In the past we had similar condition, in sonìme case worst, but in the end we continue to stay here and it seams in not so bed conditions. The future . . .who will survive, the will be able to describe it.

Ciao, from Italy.

hi
that's because of the air humidity level.. when it is high you feel like the temperature is higher than it really is.. (bochorno)
I'm living on the Canary Islands and many european people experience the same ...
I've been in Brasil some years ago in Summer and felt the same ..

Yeah!
And why are temperatures near the South of South America frigid when wine grapes are grown in approximately the equal latitude in the Northern Hemisphere.
This means Bordeaux, France at +45º latitude is equal to -45º latitude, the frigid deserts of Argentina,South America where nothing at all grows!
My guess is the Jet Stream!

It´s the air humidity. All over the world between 20 latitude north and 50 latitude south you feel a little warmer.

Hi =)
I've never been in the southern hemisphere of this planet, but I did experience this on Madeira island in the northern part of the atlantic ocean. Temperatures around 18°C (64°F) felt like 24°C (75°F) to me. The air's humitidy was lounging around at 80%. That's what I wasn't accustomed to. I'm rather used to a relative humitidy of about 40% to 60%, so I assume the air's humitidy is the reason for that phenomenon.
