Japan is not permitted a Naval force (beyond coastal protection) and if it requires assistance, they are REQUIRED to ask it of US/British/Australian forces.
I am unaware if their whaling practices are truly illegal or simply unethical by modern standards. However, "blasting them out of the oceans" is not going to happen as human life is rightfully valued over other animals. If their whaling practices are illegal, then they should face the appropriate penalties (fines/jail time). They are not subject to Australian law unless fishing in their waters. |

How can you say illegal Whaling. IWC and world know which whale should be protected. Whaling nations (incld Japan) are following IWC rule.
The whales Japan is doing whaling research are out of IWC list and IWC know the number of the whales. After BSE (mad cow disease) and the bird flu, people in the world are preferring fish to meat. The marine resources (fishes of our lunch and dinner) are decreasing now. Japan know certain whales are consuming numerous marine resources every year. The whaling nations have the data of the shortage of fishes and tried to submit the data in the IWC meeting. However, most non-whaling nations didn't give the chance to do presentation. Like the oil trading, the price of fishes are incleasing slowly. |

if that upsets you might not want to know what our troops job in Iraq is.
in case you don't know its protecting Japanese engineers. After world war two under the rules imposed on japan by the USA and the Aussies their forces can not carry arms over sea's. not totally sure on the fine details, although you being a son of a vet you probably already are aware of this. Although funny thing I was watching a doc on Iraq and and in the back ground there were Japanese soldiers ( the flag clearly visible on there uniform) standing guard in full combat uniform and yes carrying rifles mmm we the public are filled with utter bs aren't we. |

There are a lot of violent "peaceful" protestors out there, and that's one of the main concerns of Japanese whalers.
I think that's why Japan would ask for help. For example, Greenpeace, regardless of some of its amazing work in the past, has been known to purposely try to disrupt peaceful Japanese whaling expeditions. Some of these people are quite zealous and will pose harm to both themselves and others. It's almost to the point where it might make more sense if some of the Japanese boats simply harpoon a couple Greenpeace activists to make it safer for everyone in the end. The restraint that the Japanese whalers have shown is incredible. Considering it's western countries like Australia where these violent activists come from, I find it to be a very reasonable request on Japan's behalf. |
