Does the INS require someone travelling from Ghana to the USA to have $12,000 before issuing a visa?

I met a female on the internet 9 months ago. I want her to come to the USA to get married. She stated that the US embassy in Accra requires her to have $12,000 in traveler's checks before issuing a visa. Is this true?

Money scam. I bet she wanted you to send it to her also.

it may be a fraud, be careful. You can marry her there and sponsor her to come here and she will be able to move here within a year.

Please, please, please, don't believe it. While there are some monetary requirements to obtain a travel visa, it is not anything like that. The US embassy in Ghana has an internet dating and fraud warning posted on their website. Please read it and look at the other information regarding visa issuance.

I am an American living in Ghana and am aware that there is a tremendous increase in dating cons and scams that are being attempted upon unsuspecting Americans. I've had at least half a dozen emails from people asking my opinion, and doing what little digging I can do from here, in every case it was resultant fraud.

There is also a special requirement for obtaining a visa for someone getting married to an American, so please look at all of the information at the Embassy website.

Please tread very cautiously and do some serious digging or googling before you send her money.
