Nope. As long as you are a citizen you won't need one. If you are a citizen of another country, you will need your passport for identification only. Not to travel from one state to another. You will also need it to leave the country on your way home.

Starting on 01/01/2007 you will need a passport to go out of the continental area of USA such as Hawaii. And everybody will need passport to drive to Canada. Every other place you'll need just a identification which can be your drivers license

NOT TRUE.
Beginning on January 23, 2007, all people traveling by air from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to have a passport in order to enter the United States. A second phase of passport requirements will apply to land and sea travelers, beginning as early as January 2008.
