First enter Carcassonne in your search engine....to gain more information.

You can probably then discover which large city is closest, to which you fly into. The easiest thing would be to arrange to rent a car from the airport and drive to Carcassonne.

Hi

Carcassonne is in the South near the Mediterranean sea. It is quite close to Spain.

It has a small airport serving internal and short European destinations.

The easiest way to get there is to book a flight to hook up with one of the Euro airlines (flights to Carcassonne at http://www.the-languedoc-page.com/tourism/languedoc-tourism-air.htm ) or fly to Paris and then get the train or internal flight.

A bit more difficult is to fly to Toulouse, Girona, Perpignan, Montpellier or Barcelona ( nearby airports with international flights) then get local train connections.

Information on Carcassonne may be found at http://aude.c-lafrance.com/Loisirs-Visites/Carcassonne-57326.html#

In case you are only interested in Carcassonne, then it is better for you to fly to Toulouse. In case you arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (international airport), in most cases, you have to get an Air France coach to Paris Orly (local flights). There you'll get an easyjet.com flight (discount company) up to Toulouse. From time to time you may get a bargain flight with Air France if you book either early in advance or at the last minute. From Toulouse rent a car (it's worth going around : don't miss the Canal du Midi, part of World Heritage).

Another solution : take a train up to Carcassonne from Paris-Austerlitz or Paris Montparnasse station (6h30-7h30 trip). Booking and prices at http://www.voyages-sncf.com/. Advance booking and from time to time bargain or last minute booking may be available.
