greatnews... had the best answer so far. In terms of getting here and getting into the country, you need a passport and your plane ticket. Of course, from Montana, you will not be able to fly direct to Cairo so plan on a long journey with at least one stop if not two.
When you arrive in Cairo, you will need to get a visa. There will be directions to where to do this and whoever said that you need exact change is correct. You also will need to pay in US cash only for the visa so make sure you have it on you. Once you have the visa, you are officially welcomed to Egypt. Leave the airport and go. Other things to think about "needing" for Cairo: if you're going to spend time outside of the main cities or near live animals, etc., you should get a full round of shots, including typhoid, yellow fever, hepatitis A and B, and possibly malaria (although your chances of getting malaria are slim). All the shots can cost upwards of $400 so think wisely about doing it. You will get a yellow card with proof that you have the shots. Some countries can require to see this card on entry to the country, but Egypt generally isn't one of them. You can get cash after you arrive in Cairo. There are ATM machines in the airport that dispense Egyptian Pounds and will give you just as good a rate as exchanging at a teller (if not better). Not all banks allow international ATM usage so check first (if you use a "big" bank, you should be fine. Make sure the back of your ATM card has the "PLUS" logo on it and you'll be good to go). Other than that, take a map, a camera, and some tunes and you'll be fine. Have a good trip! |
