Default My mom is traveling to Mexico, does she needs a passport to go out of the USA?

My mom is a Mexican citizen and she will be traveling soon, so can she fly out of the US to mexico and get the Mexican Passort in Mexico for when she comes back?
She is a legal US resident, and the purpose of the visit to Mexico is that my grandmother is really sick. She has always travel to Mexico with no passport just with that other ID card with i forgot what its called.

It takes up to 6 weeks to get a passport, and thats if you already have a Certified copy of birth certifiacate, photos, and a completed application. A little late, I'd say!!

Your mom cannot go to any country without a valid passport. She needs to contact the nearest Mexican embassy or consulate to get a passport.

From what I gather, it will now be necessary to have a valid Passport in order for anyone to return to the States...

Yes - she needs it to return into the US. Unless of course she is just going to Mexico to hide, then the answer is no.
