No.

However, if you're flying you will need photo ID. One acceptable form is a passport, but your driver's license is also fine.

No you don't.No country in the world requires passports for internal (within the country) travel. However if you are on a visit visa to the USA, traveling with a passport or a copy of it would be a good idea.

Everyone is right ... right now you do not need a passport to fly in the USA. But.... I recently applied for my renewal passport and one for my child and was told that in the year 2008 or possibly held off till 2009 you will need a passport to fly anywhere in the USA.

This was told me by the woman who takes the passport photos at AAA and she has to know all the new and upcoming laws.

The problem is right now they are not sure if it will happen in 2008 or 2009 because they put that law into effect that if you are traveling to Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean that you have to have a passport for 2008 and now they are swamped with applications.

There is a website on the application for a Passport which will provide you with more information as the Government makes up their mind.

I know that my husband is up in arms that they are considering that law. You know BIG BROTHER is watching you everywhere now.

If you are a US citizen then you only need a picture ID to travel domestically.

If you aren't, then you should bring your passport with you so that you can prove that you have the right to be in the US. You'll need it for picture id anyway since you won't have a valid US photo id.

Happy travels!
