Is it (theoretically) possible to travel from Europe to the USA on skis?

I have had a discussion with my friend, whether it would be possible to go from Europe to North America on skis. I think that if there is a very cold winter, arctic ocean would have frozen to the Russian coast and also to the Canadian coast on the other side. It would a kind of bridge bridge. Can the ocean freeze enough?
