What kind of Visa is necessary for our travel plans from the UK to the USA?

I am planning a large trip for next year and am not sure which visa I should I apply for. I have read that time spent in Mexico and Canada counts towards the days allowed on the visa. These are the travel plans so far:

21st March London to Mexico City

1 week 5 days

2nd April Mexico City to Vancouver

1 week

10th April Vancouver to Alaska

2 weeks

24th April Alaska to Hawaii

3 weeks

15th May Hawaii to California

~8 weeks

10th July New York to London

If anyone could offer any advice I would appreciate it.

You would need to apply for a visitor (B) visa. Your time spent in the US alone would prevent you from using the VWP.
