If you are a Canadian citizen and hold a valid Canadian Passport then you do not require a visa to enter the US for non-commercial or educational purposes. So, if you are simply travelling to the US for a visit/holiday then all you need to do is present your passport when crossing the border. Alternative forms of ID for Canadians include an enhanced drivers license (if your province of residence issues them) or a NEXUS card.
If you plan on residing in the US for an extended period of time or going to school down there then you would require a visa or other documentation.
