Default Travelling to the USA from the UK?

If you have food in your suitcase e.g. chocolate (mars, snickers, other types of candy) potato chips/crisps, chewing gum, chewy sweets etc do you need to declare that you have food with you when filling out the customs form? OR do they mean dairy products like cheese, milk, plants etc? well i know you dont eat plants but you get the picture. Any help would be great!
Oh, i know you probably could get mars and snickers but some of the other sweets i dont think you can get there. or can you? Haribo?? lol..that you probably can, but when i went to Canada the chocolate tastes different and you cannot get the same crisp as we do.

The best information center is the US Embassy in London.

i would declare "snacks/candy" to be safe...if it is something i your carry on you intended to eat on the plane dont worry about it...why are you packing snacks and candy in your suitcase anyways you can get all those things here...and cheaper considering the conversion

Just put them in your checked luggage. No need to declare them.

It would really help if people clicked on the 'report' button for those very annoying ads re sportwear...

The chocolate tastes different because it has wax in it dude, all the Cadbury's stuff is made by Hershey......I don't think you can bring any food with you, besides, apart from god-awful chocolate, there isn't really anything you can't get there...a Mars Bar is a Milky Way there and a MIlky way is a "Three Musketeers".....you CAN get the same Crisps because Walkers is owned by Fito-Lay.

Hope that helps!

Ask your travel agent to be on safe side. The immigration people on the US side are in the main, not the most pleasant in my own experience - enjoy

You can bring all these things, you can also get most of them in the UK too.

How long are you coming for, perhaps you could risk not being able to access crisps and chocolate?

I'm an American citizen who travels overseas a lot (mostly Canada and Mexico)- and the rule is, if it's small, prepackaged items, such as candy or snacks, you don't have to declare them. The Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers are mostly concerned about raw meat/dairy products and produce. If you're in doubt, the general rule is to declare everything- if it's relevant or not, they'll let you know. It's less hassle for them to read a redundant declaration form than it is to go through someone's entire belongings because they forgot to declare something.
