I live in England. Me and my girlfriend are trying to plan a holiday to Florida in July. Do I require a Visa? Is this something I must apply for now? If not when? I hear some people telling us that it's just a simple form to fill in on the plane, then i heard somewhere else that the law changed last August and it can take months to process an application. Can anyone who has travelled to the U.S (recently) please clear this up?
Thanks. |

You will definitely need a passport and a valid Visa to immigrate to the USA. The number of deportations to western and eastern europe from not having a visa to accompany a passport increased in 2008 and 2009 according to statistics. The laws over there are very harsh within the Immigration and Naturalization now known as the USCIS for United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Yes you will need to have Visas for your girlfriend and your self, when you go to the USA, about 18 months ago I went on Holiday to the USA and I went with a holiday company called "Just You" and they did all of the arranging including getting the Visas for all of us, I don't know how long if took them to get the Visas but they were ready when we went on holiday, if I were you I would apply now for a Visa if you are hopping to go on holiday in July.

The law did change slightly, requiring people who want to travel to the US on the visa waiver - as you and your British GF can - to register on line before the first trip. It was voluntary starting in August 2008, but became mandatory starting in January 2009.
All you need to do (and it doesn't take months - only a few minutes) is complete the ESTA form on line for each of you. You will receive a confirmation that you may travel. After that, go get on the plane. Here is more official information: http://www.dhs.gov/xnews/releases/pr_1212498415724.shtm |
