I've decided that attempting to travel across the USA by car (along with my friend) poses far to many risks and potential problems and of course would be far too expensive. I've spotted the USA Amtrak rail pass for 45days which seems like a great idea but i would like to know if anyone else out there has done this and is it a good way of seeing the country? I understand there are restirctions to the number of journeys you can take and we are thinking of spending about 6 weeks seeing as much as we can! any tips?????

The car would be much better, and it's not that risky at all, you just have to plan where you want to go.
I've gone across the US with the car from Maryland (east) to southern california (west) following the I-80. I took the amtrak from northern california to maryland, it just wasn't the same, but we had a baby at the time so, that was for sure the best way |
