My daughter and I are going to visit family next month, we are flying out of Calgary to Halifax. My husband is not going to be going with us this time around. I am wondering if I need any kind of document for traveling with my daughter by myself? I have heard before that when only one parent travels with their childern they must have signed consent fr the other parent. Also my maiden name is still on my id, will create a problem?

It shouldn't as long as you have her birth certificate saying that you are the mom with your last name, otherwise the last name may cause some confusion. If you're still not sure contact the airport authority and ask. If you're still not sure, just bring the letter authorized by him.

I think you'll run into problems. You'd better get both of those things taken care of, don't postpone it, just get it done. Better safe, than sorry! By the way, make sure you keep your little five-year old in your sight at all times, and watch out for yourself, too. Traveling alone like that makes you an easy target for low-class people. Just keep yourself safe and make sure you have a cell phone on you at all times.
