Find the nearest Manpower office and get a temp job doing manufacturing work like bottling water at Cott Beverages for $13/hour or something. For a lot of the manufacturing jobs though, you'll probably need to at least arrange a ride ... industrial parks are notorious for shitty public transportation... plus they're way out on the outskirts of the city. Don't forget to buy a city map.

It might get tricky with getting paid because they mail cheques to your address and then you'll have to figure a way to cash them. Another idea is walk around the streets of Shaughnessy neighborhood looking for construction sites (esp. by "T. Jones") and wander into the site and explain the situation to the general contractor on site and ask if you can do site clean up and/or shovel gravel or hold ladders and pass shit to guys building the houses and get paid in cash at the end of the day.

A word from experience, don't expect even minimum wage if you're working for cash. They know you can't run and report them because working for cash is more serious than paying someone in cash and they'll take advantage of that. You'll be lucky if you get $40 or $50 a day but its more than you had and you weren't out spending while you were at work.

you should be able to cash cheques at money mart or other cheque cashing places.

fast money- construction is a good place to start. Going up to job sites might not be your best option. Look in the newspaper, try temp agencies (although without a work visa this might not work), try bartending, waiting tabels, busking on the street, or maybe working as a farm worker. If you are currently at a hostel, try asking the managers if they have any suggestions. Check craig's list Vancouver, you might be able to find a short house sitting gig, that way you can save on accomodation.
You could also try stripping- maybe. :>

Or you could ask someone back home to put some money in your bank account as an early birthday/christmas/whatever gift.
good luck!!
