Default Do I need a passport to travel to canada from the NY border?

I was planning on driving to toronto from Buffalo, NY. Does anyone know what documents I need? Right now I olny have my driver's liscense and social security card, and that's it. Is that enough to get me across, or do I need something more?

You will need a passport next year to cross. Now it is only required when flying. A driver's license should be fine.

Yes you need a passport anytime you enter or leave the country now.

Looked into a bit and you do only need a passport if your going by air as of now.

As of yet no, only if flying, however they are trying to make using the passport sooner than they said. A dreiver's licence and a birth certificate will be enough. Ejoy your trip.

The problem is not in entering Canada, there is no change at all here. The problem may be with you re-entering the US.

NO PASSPORT is required when arriving by land until 01 01 2008. you will need to prove citizenship. gov't issued photo ID proves identity. photo ID with birth cert. proves citizenship enough to satisfy immigration until jan.(in most cases a baptismal cert. will work too.)
