Default Is it a good idea to travel with car within cities in Canada?

if it is, what is your best suggestion for travel within Eastern part of Canada: quebec, montreal, ottawa, and toronto
Also, what is the best travel guide for canada, i saw a couple such as lonely planet, eyewitness travel guide and I am still not sure which one is the best.
Thanks

How do you think Canadians get from one city to another?? Drive their cars, thats how.

For the travel guide , I'd suggest either lonely planet or Fodors.

If you are going to rent a car to get around, I would recommend doing so in every city but Toronto. Traffic can be a little nuts there, and it's usually easier to get around another way besides driving. As for a travel guide, why not try the tourism sites for each place you are going to visit? They will have comprehensive information on services and attractions in each place. Plus, there are normally links to external sites with more information. Have fun :)

Yes, rent a car, even in Toronto. You just will not see enough to bother if you take public transit. I have driven all over the Toronto Area and it is no worse than any other big city.

I think it depends on a number of factors. Depending on which areas you'll be visiting in the larger cities, traffic congestion and parking might be two issues you'd rather not deal with. Toronto has a great transit system and it offers day passes. On the other hand, if you're visiting all of these cities in one trip and not planning on taking a bus or train, it might be easier to rent a car for the entire trip.
Personally I prefer the Lonely Planet guides.
