Default Traveling to Canada (Niagara Falls) without a Passport?

We're going for a honeymoon, but I don't have a passport. I'm told, if I drive, I only need a birth certificate and driver's liscence. BUT, I live in Nebraska. So, I need to fly somewhere NEAR Canada and then drive over to the Falls. Where is the best place to do this? Any tips? How long does the drive take? Are the borders open all hours of the night?

Easiest/cheapest place for you to fly into will be Buffalo, NY...rent a car and take the Peace Bridge over.... birth certificate and Drivers liscense are all you'll need. Border is open 24/7. Just like driving in the states only everything is metric. Oops, almost forgot... less than an hour drive if there's no traffic.

Your best bet will be flying to Buffalo, NY. You can stay in Buffalo near the Falls but I recommend spending a little more and staying on the Canadian side of the falls (it is nicer). You will be able to cross the border at any time and the Falls are only a 40 minute drive (or less) from the airport.

As of January 31, 2008:
- Oral declarations of citizenship and identity alone will no longer be accepted.
- U.S. citizens ages 19 and older will need to present a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, AND proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate
- If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada; however, you should carry proof of your citizenship such as a birth certificate as well as a photo ID.

The borders are open 24/7. The best way to go is:
-Fly into Buffalo, NY
-Take I-90 and cross over into Canada at the Peace Bridge (Buffalo/Fort Erie). This takes you right to the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), which will bring you right into Niagara Falls.
-Follow the QEW for about 25-30 minutes. Take the exit for Highway 420, this will bring you to Victoria, turn right. After a couple of blocks, turn left on Clifton Hill, and turn right onto Niagara Parkway. The falls are on your left! The hotels are on your right!
-Recommended hotels:
Sheraton on the Falls (Clifton Hill)
Marriott Fallsview
Fallsview Casino Resort

Enjoy your honeymoon! Congratualations!
