Default Do you require a TSA lock for traveling to Canada?

No don't be silly if they want into your luggage they will cut the lock off it is better to put a lock on to keep the "Ramp Rats" out of it. Your luggage will only be inspected IF the computer finds something wrong when it scans it more than once.

You do not "have to" have one, but if they do search your luggage, it will save you money when they break a non TSA lock. By having one, they can open and relock your luggage. (they put a notice in your luggage either way)

The TSA locks are the same price as a non TSA lock...so my reasoning is if they are going to do it, make it easier for them and save money. (remember the reason they are doing it too: for your safety) It also saves time in getting your bags to the baggage area if they arent fighting with your lock.

It's in your best interest to lock your luggage, and to do so with a TSA lock.

When I travelled from Canada to the UK for the first time, I locked the front pouch of my suitcase with this neon green TSA-approved lock. When I got my suitcase back, the front pouch was locked with a smaller brass lock. If I'd not used a TSA-approved lock, they'd have cut the lock, and then I'd be out one luggage lock.

(Not sure why they needed to open it, it didn't look like they'd gone through my stuff in the front pouch or the main part of my suitcase. *shrug* Great mystery of life, but be aware that it does happen.)
