For a tourist. Please don't give me some long cut and paste. I'd like a simple answer based on personal experience. Ten years ago I crossed the border into Canada with only a New York State Driver's license but I've heard that since 2001 you now need a passport. Thanks in advance.

On one that episode of that 70's show, nobody who was a US citizen needed a passport to cross the border. I have a friend who travelled to Niagra Falls and then on to Canada and they didn't need to bring anything either. But I don't know if that will change in 2006 like that person said, if they do change it that would be pointless.
