It would be better to get up to Quebec City and then take a rental car from there up north, through Ile d'Orleans and Charlevoix, an area of extreme scenic beauty, with lovely Quebecois houses and delightful inns and restaurants. You will think you are in rural France. If you reach Tadoussac, there is whale-watching cruises.
The secret of eating in Quebec is the "Casse-croutes" or roadside snackbars which sell hot dogs, chips and such. You will be amazed at how good inexpensive food can be. Truck-stops are also great for full-sized meals.
You can find little shops which sell home-made paper implanted with real flowers and such. These make wonderful souvenir gifts.
Bon voyage!!!
