I've heard the islands are very homophobic. Additionally, two lesbian friends of mine were slayed there because they were gay (in the 90's).
What is the climate like there now? One does not have to make an announcement nor wear a tee shirt to be identified as gay. Just dining or walking in the company of another man could be enough. |

My understanding of Jamaica comes from the seasonal farm workers who come here, and we're very friendly. They all do tell me though, to avoid Jamaica because there are those there that would kill me if they suspected I was gay. Yet none of them here have ever given me a hard time. They've always been very nice to me.

im from the caribbean and unfortunately u are rite. jamaica is one of the most homophobic countries and the smaller countries are following their influence. i would reccomend barbados because the people there are used to gay people and they are not at all violent. what ever you do just dont go to jamaica, those people there need to wake up.
