Default Would it be better to leave my beta fish w/out food for 8 days, or travel w/ it?

I'll be gone for 8 days. If I brought the fish, I feel like it wouldn't be very good for it to be bouncing around in a car for three hours both ways. Would it be okay to leave it for 8 days? It has been regularly fed for the last few months, and seems healthy and happy right now.

You should find somebody to feed it. But I think it would be just torcher for the poor thing to be bouncing in the car.

They can go 14 days without food. They often do in nature.

You're right about the stress of moving around. I think people don't consider how important it is for bettas to be stress-free.

You don't need those feeding tablets either(I don't know if you're considering that)they will just dirty the water and you can come home to a high ammonia reading.

You can go to your pet store and buy food tabs that slowly release food. They are available for various different amounts of time.

This is what you should use:

The Pyramid Fish Feeder will automatically feed your fish when you're on vacation. Features a patented secret chamber containing tubifex worms which opens half-way through the feeding cycle. Will feed 20 average sized fish in a 10 gallon tank for 7-10 days. For freshwater or saltwater fish.

Instructions:
After being placed in the tank, the pyramid will start dissolving immediately and the first food pellets will be released within a few hours. Worms are released on about the 4th day. Do not use in fishbowl's or aquariums without adequate filtration and aeration, because water circulation is needed for the pyramid to dissolve properly.

They will slowly et from that. I do not suggest you take it with you because I am 100% sure it will die in the journy because of stress. Good luck, though.

Please take your fish with you or get a sitter. Animals have to be properly maintained and looked after...before you leave your fish at home alone for eight days, ask yourself this, would i do this to a child? After all, the fish is not out in the wild, so how can he/she fend for themself...it can't right, so please, at least do your conscious a favor and take the fish...have a safe trip.

Try this:
Time release fish food blocks are an ingenious and inexpensive way to feed fish while you're out of town if you don't have an automatic fish feeder - some last the weekend, a whole week or even up to 2 weeks! Time release fish food blocks contain quality fish foods (sometimes with additional treats); they even clarify your water as they slowly dissolve, releasing fish food at regular intervals. Most require proper water pH, temperature, and circulation to dissolve correctly (all of which you need anyway), so test your water before you leave.

the beta will be fine after 8 days without food. if you are worried, just put a slice of cucumber in the tank. he can nibble on that.
