The food is bizzare, simply because you have not been exposed to them. For others, it could have been considered a delicacy or a staple to their diet.
I remember watching a Fear Factor episode, where they asking the contestant to eat a Century Egg, which they made it out to sound so bad. In reality, it was just normal duck eggs soaked in alkaline (it was much worse in the ancient days) until the protein harden. My family and me was yelling that, we could have eaten it without any hesitation. However, eating other stuff like, e.g. Koreans drinking RAW OCTOPUS, from a glass, still turns my stomach |

I used to have job (won't say with who) that had "clean-up" for all 3 shifts on Fridays. I mean we would scrub from top to bottom, every sq. inch all around inside that building. Reason being: F.D.A. said: " You WILL allow only (blank) amount of bug's in the production of your food products. So, therefore "EVERY" Friday will be top to bottom clean-up time for the entire building to remove as much negative matter as possible... AND... we will hold suprise inspections to evaluate the need to shut-down-your-company !!!"
So. you are already eating all kinds of stuff (either at home or out and about) without your knowledge because you "trust" the name on the box. Don't want you to blow lunch, but, let's say for the next year yo u dump out every box of what-ever you normally buy somewhere clean so you can sift thru and inspect what's really in the box of what-ever. FEAR NOT... you've been eating bug's and what-ever since Mom put that 1st spoon in your direction and said, "Open up" (with a smile). So, since you ain't dead yet... don't worry... we "all" eat the same amount garbage since the 1st caveman opened up the 1st store. In fact, the United States Marine Corps showed us all kinds of things we could eat if need be to survive. |

I love that show. I love watching his reactions, especially when he hates something.
I already tried some of the stuff he's had, including his 'arch nemesis" durian. It was... at least eatable but not pleasurable. Some foods he tries are actually quite good, but some are ugh... I generally would try most things at least once (as long as it's generally healthy for you). I hate it when people immediately freak out. People in different countries had to eat what was available in their area. Some foods are still common, some aren't. I like watching the reactions of locals when Andrew Zimmern eat certain foods. Even some of the locals don't like it. |
