Default How did an average small-town american family travel around in the US in the 70's? (car, plane?)?

It is for a project, where are trying to find out how a family got from their small hometown to i.e. Disney World and how they planned the trap. Internet sources with information about it would be appreciated.

can you say "Road trip"??? I really think it was more fun and exciting back then- everything was new and an adventure because we didn't have all this info that we have today. We DID fly occasionally, too.

Here in the rural Midwest. We traveled shorter distances-say 500-1000 miles via car.
And yes-even motor homes.

For longer trips we flew. And if not familiar with our destination booked reservations through a travel agency.

Certainly did not have the luxury of using the internet. Looking back though-does not seem to have been that difficult. Perhaps even easier.

Well in 74 my father, mother ,5 brothes and sister, drove a 1970 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon from Birmingham to Panama City to visit me while I lived there.
They saved a small amount of money each week for about 8 weeks and rented a small mom&pop motel room near the beach. They stayed there 3 days and ate out at a "fancy" seafood restraunt once.the rest of the time they went to burger joints or places like that.
