Well first, where in Europe? Second, you need to check on money conversions for say, Germany, from dollars to marks. Europe is pretty expensive, but, if that's no problem it is also beautiful.. I suggest you run your trip ideas past a travel agent who can think of everything needed and can plan your whole trip for you. A good agent will be worth it and willing to draw up your own itinerary.. Just for you.. Wish I was a little mouse so I could ride in your carryalls((HA)

Do a lot of internet searching and find where you want to go and when you want to travel and that will determine part of your price. The full peak season of summer is very expensive and lodgings sell out fast July and August. But there are farms where you can be a guest, and farms where you can be a part-time worker and a guest...feed the horses, herd sheep then enjoy the afternoon, but sometimes meals are extra so you have to find that information before you decide. There are always package deals too. Maybe Try European based yahoo and see if it helps your searching?
I went in 2002 to Oxford for 2 weeks leaving Los Angeles CA. to visit friends. I came home a week early and paid approximately $2500 peak season to change my reservation to an earlier departure! I think in phone cards and train tickets, buying snacks, a few postcards with postage and a movie one night, plus a few meals I also spent about another $350-450 U.S. dollars on myself 5 years ago, so with inflation I will let you do the math. Good Luck& Happy Vacationing!

thats a big question. My wife and I spent 5 weeks traveling all over Europe for $6000. We are quite thrifty with our money though! We spent roughly $1000 for flights, $1500 for extensive train travel, and $3500 for everything else (that is $100 times 35 days for all food, lodging, and admission tickets) We were able to do this so cheaply by spending HOURS researching our options... Such as hostels in every city, Eurail flex pass where we took every night train we could, priceline.com for the red eye flight, and by using Rick Steve's guidebooks to Europe.
Your price all depends on where you want to go. how many train rides do you want to take? Locations matter greatly too (London is literally 10 times more expensive to stay in than an Easter city like Prague). My estimate for you, if you are as thrifty as me, would be 1600 flights, 1500-2000 for trains, and 150-200 a day for everything else (thats about 9000) have fun, and do research. We were so glad we were informed travelers.

Depends on the places you want to visit and the money you want to spend.
