Default I am traveling to Sicily this fall and I'm trying to find family that I have over there, any suggestions?

My grandmother was born there, I know her name, her parents' names, the region they lived in and her parents' siblings' names. I've tried doing internet searches, but I think I might be going about it the wrong way. Anyone done this before with success? Anyone in Sicily (near Palermo) that could offer advise?

People in Sicily have been living there for hundreds of years and it is these long time families that have many many relatives in the general are of Palermo. Also, for Generations people have been living in close proximity to each other and if a close relative is not readily found then another family will recognize the last name and help you. Long distance calls are not as expensive as they used to be and I would place an ad in the city's newspaper, give what information you can and accept collect calls from people that want to help. I found my Grandmother living in northern Italy in the city of Gradisca. I was in Trieste Italy and the hotel personnel took it as a personal challenge to locate her. The family name was very common in Gradisca (Odorico) by they tracked her down and we had a great reunion..Do you know the hotel you will be staying at in Palermo? I bet they will find her before you arrive..Good luck!

I think you should find a Palermo phone book, and call any number with the same last name, even if the number is wrong they can have some information about the family.
