Rajasthan. Go to New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, and Udaipur. I went in January but its beautiful in December too. Have fun, its an amazing country.

Climate-wise December will be very pleasant though out North India and Bangalore. All other place also have good climate. You can choose a part of the country, preferably Delhi/Rajastan area or South India. Both these areas have lot of places for sight seeing and you can enjoy it with the family-.

It depends what kind of travelling experience you are looking for. In Himachal Pradesh, Northern UP ( Garhwal belt ) and J & K, there will be cold temperature and snowfall too. However, if you are looking forward to experience the first snowfall, then J&K state or Himachal is the best. You can visit places like Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahelgaon in Kashmir or places like Shimla, Manali or Albuquerue in Himachal Pradesh.
If you want to experience just cold climate but not the snowfall, then you should visit places like Jaiselmer in Rajasthan which gives you an excellent experience of dessert. You may also visit places like Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
Places like Darjeeling will also be very cold ( minus the snow factor ).
If you want to escape from cold, then visit places like Pondicherry ( South India's eastern coast ) or Goa (S. Indias' western coast )
Ooty, Kodaikanal and other hill stations in south India will also be too cold ( minus snow ).

Now you decide. India is as such the best place all the time of the year.
