Our baby is 4-months old and most of the family (except MIL & FIL) have never seen her. They live in another state. I am a SAHM and my husband is a disabled veteran, so finances are tight. Should we take on the extra financial burden of driving to see them or should we adopt the attitude if they want to see her, they can come here (they are financially more able to do so, although we have more time)? It would cost us around $1200 in gas, food & hotel up & back.

You phrased it 'so our baby can see family' and I laughed knowing she will never remember them. Sorry to say that most people arent excited about seeing a baby so in light of your financial situation I would say skip it. Write to them saying that If they would like to come see her, you can help them find a hotel. And be sure you mention the hotel part so they dont expect to stay with you when you have a new baby and are up nights is no time for house guests. Congratulations
