Has anybody ever traveled to Romania? What's it like? Is it dangerous?

We visited Romania few years ago and can only recommend.
Beautiful mountains ,nice people. There was a help offered to us when we broke down , we didn't got robbed or abused in any way. Of course people were and are still very poor and trere is certain amount of crime , as much as in other simillar travel destinations. Especially in the cities , crowded spots ,public transportation watch your items , keep your vallet or back pack on your sight , avoid showing off excessive amount of .. anything. Try to fit the dressing local style what else ? While traveling around (ground) pre-plan sleep over locations , avoid staying alone , always park at guarded parking lots , camps , no rest areas or exit ramps , along side spontaniously choosed locations are recommended . There are plenty new ,attractive and also very expensive resorts built on the sea shore already ,owned mostly by british's , german's and others , and there are still areas , where people don't have jobs and there's not much around. Rockies are really rocky , perfect for climbing or white water kyaking . Use your common senses , read or use official sources before going there , read news .The best is to use special checking account , where is minimum amount kept with over draft protection and transfer only necessary money as you go from internet cafe's.Good luck and enjoy.

It is not dangerous. Romania is beautiful . Take it like this in other countries you risk being kidnapped , there are terrorist attacks or wars. In Romania the biggest risk is the lost of your wallet and only if you are careless.

There are so many things to see. Nature is wild and surprising .Romania has mountains and sea and the Danube delta. You can see castles and medieval towns, amazing monasteries and ruins from the time of the Roman empire.
