If you are under 26 then you can apply for a euro-rail youth pass. For one month it runs about 700 dollars US. Proovides unlimited travel through like 15 countries in 1 month. I bought it, it was a good deal, however some trains make you have to upgrade to ride them, like the German ICE trains that go like 150 MPH. If you are not going to many destinations, try looking at RYANAIR.COM they have cheap plane tickets all over europe. If you are planning on seeing a lot, then the EURO-RAIL is the best, you can plan your train departures for the evening so you can sleep on the train, you will save by not having to pay for a hotel. Good luck on the shower though, I only found Paris to have exceptional facilities for showering. Cost was about 12 euro.
