A: As it became clear that Stalin wanted to impose dictatorial Communist regimes on Eastern Europe, the US became less keen on the USSR joining the war against Japan, for fear it would try something similar there.
B: It made the US more eager to let Stalin know they had a superweapon (the atom bomb) in the hope of getting him to take their concerns more seriously and maybe stay out of the war on Japan. |

USSR policy in Eastern Europe had little to do with it. Within a few days of the US conquering Japan, Russia decided to finally declare war on Japan, hoping to cash in, especially in Manchuria and Korea.
Resentment, and a guarded stance toward Russia, still exist in a few educated Americans and Brits today. As well as the raped and pillaged Eastern European nations that suffered under Soviet Communism... |
