Please do not advise me to get DirectTV or Dish Network because I have had both and am no longer interested in their programming. The channels I am looking for are not available on these carriers. I am looking to view satellite TV from Spain, France and Italy and would like to know which satellite I have to buy to get it. The size and cost of the system is not important. I am also not so interested in online webtv. Thanks.

As of today, I am pretty sure it is not possible to directly get European satellite tv anywhere in the US. The reason for this is that tv satellites are at a constant location over the earth and geometery would not allow a receiver in the US to "see" a satellite over Europe because of the curvature. The only solution that I know of is the online route unless, European tv providers want to launch another satellite to reach the US (highly unlikely).

Your only hope appears to be a C-band satellite setup, which includes installing that BUD (Big Ugly Dish) that was an issue back in the day in large cities.
Very likely getting most international programming will involve buying a digital receiver and some programming package, since such programming is probably not available unscrambled. No diff than getting Dish Network or DirecTV. Wish I knew a reputable place where you could start. |
