The biggest festival in that part of Europe and also one that was awarded The Best Festival of the Continent prize is Exit in Novi Sad, Serbia.
It's at the beginning of July. Here's the Line Up for Exit '09: http://eng.exitfest.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1162&Ite mid=351 |

I only know about Germany.
Hurricane/Southside (alternative indie) Love Parade (city rave, electronica techno) Highfield (alternative indie) Rock im Park/Rock am Ring (mainstream big names) Chiemsee Reggae Fest Wacken (heavy metal) Belgium: Pukkelpop check out this answer about festivals in Europe from someone else: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiCpM7fSX1SN0gT5rwsMDq4jzKIX;_ylv=3?qid =20070303085534AAhV1qn websites: -www.kartenhaus.de for music fests in Germany(sometimes other countries too, click on festivals and look at the drop-down list at the bottom of the page) -www.bahn.de for for trains, look for discounts for groups, all public tranportation all day tickets(bus, rail, etc), regional discounts -www.hostelworld.com (to find high rated/cheap hostels) -www.ryanair.com for cheap plane tickets Note: -You can't bring in drinks to the concert area only juice cartons(depending on the size they allow) -Alcohol and substances are not allowed in the camping sites but are not difficult hard to sneak in(be careful about substances though lol) -show up the day before the fest starts to get a good camp site -rock im park/rock am ring sold out early in '08 so buy your tickets in advance) -don't overpack, just the basics(tent, sleeping bag, a few clothes, money, flashlight, water, soap/shampoo/towel), or whatever if you want to add/decorate on your camp site. there are food stands everywhere, stores, and festival shirts for sale bring a lightweight raincoat/poncho |
