Europe votes as regional groups in the Eurovision contest because of regional tastes and not politics!
You have to understand that Scandinavians have more in common than say Italians and Greeks, so obviously people in our countries will vote for each others songs. And the same applies to Eastern and Central European nations!
And Eastern Europeans have totally different tastes in music and dance! Of course they listen to the same pop music the rest of the world does, but they have different views that are "coloured" by their culture.
I have thought a lot about why Britain ends up getting so few points lately. It's because your culture is now very multi-cultural, and the rest of Europe is not like London! And especially Eastern Europeans don't relate to your affinity for international music.
That woman with the Asian inspired music a few years back was a big hit in the UK, but the rest of Europe just didn't get it. I strongly believe coloured people get discriminated against in this contest, the masses simply won't vote for them. And if the music is too "foreign" it will also fail.
The British people will vote for the music they like, but if you want to win in the ESC you have to think about the audience.
