Are there any hidden budget friendly way to travel from Munich to Vienna this summer?

I am backpacking/honeymooning there in a few weeks, and all I can find is a very expensive train. It seems impossible that this is the only option.

Find out if they allow Hitch Hiking.

Try a low-cost airline. It will probably land in Bratislava though not Vienna (but Bratislava is just 1 hr away and there are frequent buses)

Try also renting a car. Maybe it will be less than the train tickets.

you are right, a normal ticket costs 79 Euro one way.

Have you ever thought about travellin over night?
There is a train called EuroNight (EN).
Time of departure is 23:45 and you´ll arrive in Vienna 05:55 next day.
If you book in time you can get it for 29 Euro one way.
That´s rather cheap.

Rent/buy a bicycle. Take the train to Passau with Bayernticket and ride along the Danube bike trail. Cost: depending solely on the distance you manage per day and how much you spent on accomodation.

Another option could be to cross the border into the Czech Republic and take a Czech train to Bratislava.

the train is an option, if you can get a cheaper promotional ticket, but usually it is quite expensive.

You can try for a flight, sometime Lufthansa offers flights starting from 99 Euro on a return flight. Check at their website.

Another possibility is the "Mitfahrzentrale" , this is some official way of hitchhiking. Drivers offer available seats in their car and charge you part of the gasoline costs.
As this is done over a profit organisation, they charge you a small amount on top, but then you are insured and it is safe, because drivers have to leave adress, show their passport, etc.

I used to do this when I was a student, but you never know how the "driving style" of your driver will be and it can be daunting sometimes.

Probably the best and cheapest option for you is the bus, called "Europabus". They part from the busstation in Froettmaning (where the Allianz Arena is) and the price should be well under 40 Euro (I don't know the exact price).

I'm not sure if Ryan air flies out of Munich, but I know it flies out of Frankfurt. Thier rates are EXTREMELY cheap, I think it was 54 euro to fly from Frankfurt to Rome roundtrip. You basically just pay for the taxes (which are sometimes higher than the ticket price) Anyway, they have a website: http://www.ryanair.com Check it out.
