Well we just got married and are moving to Cal where I am from. We have 2 vehicles we need to drive out there...extremely low on funds....and could use some guidence

I'm not familiar with the travel route you are taking, but since you are military, if there are bases on the way, you could use those as your lodging places because most of them have very good rates. Also, fuel is sometimes cheaper on those bases.

When my husband and I (also military) traveled, we knew where we were stopping and contacted the chamber of commerce for specific places that had military discounts. It took them about a week to let us know, but it did help us out.

Also, just remember to always ask about the discounts because many places have them, but don't advertise them.
