there are a lot of hostels in Europe, they cost little per day, also some farming people will let you put up a tent in their field for nothing.best way to get around would be a bike.

You could go it on your own (backpacking, hostels, etc), but for a first time trip, I'd recommend Contiki tours. You get a lot of bang for your buck, esp. on the budget tours. I've been on more than one and enjoyed each one.

One way to save cash is to avoid eating in many restaurants. Go to a supermarket and buy your lunch and then have a picnic.

There are plenty of ways. Whenever I go I find good bargains on airfare and hotels with a little bit of research. You might find the below links helpful, they've helped me.

When you say budget are you looking for hostel staying, or a basic hotel?

You can start by checking the train pass, with it you can travel all over for a super cheap price, you get on and off whenever, wherever. Also take some food basics with you like PB & J becuase food can be very expensive and sometimes hard to come by becuase of the differance in their food to ours. Also take some cash, but locate cash machines as you go. Hostiles are cheap but you get what you pay for and some are not safe as well as really dirty. Google high school travel companies that offer school trips contact them for a list of clean but cheap hotels and resturants.

Grocery shop, first of all. Food in restaurants and pubs in Europe get expensive. However, drinks are not too bad, so if you want the atmosphere, go in for drinks, but eat where you are staying. Secondly, bring any over the counter medication you think you may need with you (always carry immodium. You may eat something that differs with your current diet and bring cold medicine because they have different strains of virus in Europe you will be succeptable to). The weather is also unpredictable, so make sure you bring everything from a sweater to a swimsuit (just one or two of each, you can wash them by hand in the sink and hang them to dry)...don't get stuck having to buy clothing unless you want to shop for clothes...they are not cheap! And bring an umbrella! Make sure you have your own soaps, shampoos, etc. If you are in a city for a couple of days it is worth your money to get a travel pass that covers tubes and busses. Walk, don't take taxies, if you can avoid them. Things like plays and operas are also much less expensive than the US, especially if you buy the tickets in advance. A lot also depends on where you are in Europe...I am talking about England/Whales and it's been a long time since I was there. Hope any of this at all helped and I wish you a happy and fun filled vacation!!
