Default I need some advice on traveling overseas with my disabled sister?

My twin sister is paralyzed from the neck down and dependent on a ventilator, she's completely helpless and there is a lot of work involved in caring for her properly and we have to have special supplies and medication with us to care for her. My parents and I want to bring her on a trip with us to visit our relatives overseas (in Israel) and my sister really wants to go on the trip badly, but we're not sure how we could care for her properly and make her as comfortable as possible on a very long airplane flight. I don't have any experience traveling with someone disabled. I only want to take my sister on the trip if it will for sure be safe for her and if we will be able to have everything we need to take care of her properly on the airplanes. I've never before taken her on a trip since her accident a few years ago. Does anyone have any experience traveling with someone who is very disabled? Are there special arrangments we could make with the airlines to bring her with us on the trip

I think you should do whatever it takes to make her comftorable . Since she has disabilitys theyll bored your family first and will assist you . As for the med you have to take them with you and for the ventalator call her doctor and ask for they're opinion I don't think there will be any problems but you never no . Call the air line and see what they could do to make her comftorable. If worst comes to worst you can take a cruise line. I hope your sister is able to go cause I think that wouldn't be fair exspecially if she's siked for it

Good luck <3

I take my disabled daughter on long haul flights with me and have never had any problems. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you have everything planned and in place before you go. Most airlines are only too willing to help and will most of the time go out of their way to help you. You need to ring the airline well before you go and tell them all the details of the help your sister will need and what equipment you will be taking on the plane, especially in hand luggage. They do let you take extra liquids and extra hand luggage in the cabin as long as you have a signed letter from her doctor. They usually help you with everything once you get in the airport to leaving the airport at your destination. As long as you have planned ahead and made sure you have enough medical supplies for any delays you shouldn't have any problems. If you have the correct documents from her doctors you should have no problems with airport security either. I hope you have a good trip.

Personally I would be more concerned about being in Israel. I have a friend who just came back from there and I said I had wished I had gone with him and he said I should be glad I didn't. He said the country was totally inaccessible. SO I would investigate that too.

First call the airline and tell them the situation, regardless of what the doctor says (or if the doctor writes an order telling the airline things must be a certain way) the airline has the right to accept or reject. Bring as many extra supplies as the airline will allow in case something breaks or medicine is short. I would assume the airplane would be very comfortable to travel in, as airlines are required by law to accommodate disabled people. It would be almost as safe as traveling here would be.

Have her go to the doctor and tell him what you plan, there should be no problem there. He can probably give you some more information that your looking for.

I truly believe you should take your sister on this trip, in all honesty she might be a little uncomfortable at times, but I believe the need to go outweighs the risk of not being comfortable. Imagine how she feels already. This may be her only chance to see these people. I have traveled with people (including myself) who have problems (for example I wear an insulin pump) and take medicines with them, things like that, but not a paralyzed person. I really think you will be fine.

I have to agree with another post. I would be more worried about being in Israel than anything else, whether paralyzed or not, with all these countries being in war. Check things in the country before you go, and be sure your sister would have a way to travel (unless you've been there or lived there before). Good luck.
