So is it the best idea just to bring US dollars. He has been to Mexico many times and said that when i go to the market they will want US dollars. It seems like Mexico already knows the exchange rate so they say hey we want you're dollar amount and we will lower our prices to make up for it.
Thanks so much...it makes total sense! Definately take US dollars...the travel agent even said don't worry about taking travelers checks...just dollars. |

As the previous answerer said...the merchants will accept dollars...but you pay about 10%more that way. Why would you do that? Use your ATM card and get pesos out and pay in pesos...do NOT offer to pay in dollars...unless you just like to spend more than you need to...and No...they do not lower the pricest to "make up"for the difference.

if you are taking only dollars you are being subject to getting ripped off unless you go to places like the border, wich i do not recomend you should exchange your money you'll get more from it and also you get to know the mexican money wich by the way is very beautiful

Hi! if you added your comment after reading the previous answers, you are not getting it. If you pay with USDollars, you will LOOSE 10% or more,
They already gave you the advise: use your ATM card to withdraw money, it will give you pesos. Personal advice: use the local currency whenever you travel, it shows respect, locals like that. |

Bring your dollars, almost anyone will accept them (including myself), and of course we all will try to earn some money!
We all will take your dollars for less than the current rate: almost anyone will pay you 10 pesos for one dollar, while the current rate is higher. An explain: I will sell to you 1 peso for 10 cents of dollar; while the market price is only 9.5 cents. It is a more expensive peso. Did you get it now? |
