Default travel mexico?

Hi i have a few questions...I am planning a trip to Mexico (myan riveria).......im staying at the Riu resort (Hotel Riu Palace Riviera Maya) which is located in the region of Playa Del Carmen....

first of all do you guys have any feedback on this place...

also, i wan to visit all the myan ruins; coba and chichen itza, any suggestions as to what tours, or other places to stay which may be close
Do you guys think that staying at playa del carmen is too far from the ruins ex. cabo. chizen??

I just got back from Cancun...so a little different. But the general stuff will apply...bring lots of $1 bills for taxis, tipping, etc.

Sun Tan Lotion is a must with higher protection for lighter skin. You'll enjoy the ruins, just remember it is more inland and very hot. Bring water, sunglasses and a hat! You may also want to visit some Cenotes and jump into the subterranean rivers / lakes. Make sure to eat breakfast and bring some snacks since the bus rides to the ruins are a good distance...several hours. Have buttloads of fun! ;)

Had a boyfriend once that was Mayan from Mexico. We went once and went all around. Never stayed at the hotel except occasionally, when I needed a shower and a little room service. We stayed at his parents home it was small and very rustic. We ate what they ate and lived like they did, it was exciting to see how other cultures live. Be adventuresome eat where the locals eat and you will have some of the best food there is around. The hotels cater to tourist so all the foods are made for the American palate. Bring lots of film or get a great digital camera lots to see Copal and Cichen Itza are indescribable.

The Yucatán peninsula is big; it all depends how long are you staying and what places you want to visit. Once in Cancún everything will be easier.
