Yes, it doesn't matter if you are a citizen or not. You need a passport to go anywhere.

You need proof of ID to travel between the two, of course. A Passport is the best form of ID when traveling period.

Boarder Patrol Guards and Immigration Officials don't accept one's word as proof of ID.

I would call the mexican consulate and ask. But to be safe i would get a american passport. I did for my son he is only a baby but has dual nationality with usa/mexico. They say its a new rule to have a passport for land and air travel. Also if your not registered as a mexican national yet you would definitly need one. Hope this helped some.

If you are traveling by land, all you currently need is government ID (driver's license) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate).

If traveling by air, you will need a passport.

NO If you were born in the U.S. with Mexican national parents then you are recognized as Mexican national and need I.D. to travel by sea or land.
There is no such thing as "Duel Citizenship" They are simply "Words"
There are no such documents, no cards , no forms etc.

If you ,as an American or any foreigner applies for citizenship in Mexico they are required to renounce their country of origin. This is a technicality as the U.S.A does not recognize the issue.
Everone , these days should have a passport.
