traveling to Mexico with my stepchild?

i live and work legally in the US and i am planning to travel to my native country Mexico for 2 weeks with my 16 years old stepchild(she was born in the U.S.) which makes her an U.S citizen,my wife can't go because work reasons ,I already know that my step daughter needs a U.S. passport in order to fly to Mexico, but i want to know if she needs to have any other paper work to show in the US and mexican airports and do everthing legally..since i am not her real father..

You can get lost anywhere in Mexico.

If you are not her "real" father and she is under age, you might run into problems! Technically, you cannot transport a minor, without her parent/guardians written permission! You and your step-daughter may be detained at the point of embarkation because of this!

I know that even when I traveled with my own daughter to Mexcio, after the divorce, I needed a notorized letter from my ex husband saying that I had permission to take her to Mexico with me. So, you might need one, too. I would suggest that you call the airlines you will be using, and also contact your Mexico consul office in your town. Safe travels and enjoy! You will need a letter from her mother giving you permission to take her out of the u.S. and into mexico. Your wife must sign the letter and have it notarized. This is Mexican law. See site below and read the paragraph on "minors" under "Entry Requirements." Sometimes they ask to see the letter, sometimes they don't, but you need to have it.

You do need the notarized letter signed by both parents giving permission to travel to Mexico. Not only is it required by Mexico but the airline will not allow you to board without it.
