Default Does a person need a passport to travel from the US to Cozumel Mexico?

If so, how long does it take to get a passport?

There is a new law that requires passports to any part of Mexico. You can get your passport expedited, pay more of course, but get it much sooner (1 week). Unless you want to wait the 6 week period.

of course you need a passport, ever since like las summer it became mandatory for any U.S. citizen to get a passport. Any how it takes any where from 2 to 4 week to receive one, but if you pay like $60 dollars more you will receive in a week, depending in what state you live in.

P.S. If you travel w/out a passport you will need to find a U.S. embassy in Mexico and they will give you a permit to enter the U.S. Hope this helps!!!!! Good Luck!

Yes. As of this year (2007) you will need a passport to travel to outlying US territories (Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam, etc.), Mexico & Canada.

Thanks Osama!

Any travel out of the US except for travel to US territories require a valid passport now, this includes Canada and Mexico. You can go on line and just put in US Passport application and it will direct you to the goverment web site. If you go standard service it can take anywhere from 6 weeks and up. You can expedite, but is expensive. Should be able to get a new passport in about 1-2 weeks. You will need to have a certified copy of your birth certificate.

Its a good idea to have a passport, specially because they are now requiring it when you return to the U.S. but to enter Mexico they have tourist permits you can get them at the airport or at the border crossings.

See the website below for the official government requirements for your own peace of mind. You do not need a passport to DRIVE to Mexico until Jan. 2008. But..you must have a passport to FLY to and from Mexico. You do NOt need a passpory to go to U.S. territories like the U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico. It takes more than 8 weeks standard to get a passport, but if you pay the fee for expedited service this time will be shorter...the website can tell you how long it is taking at this time... am sure it is more than one week. There is a GREAT deal of mis-information on this subject being given...so see the website for yourself. Have a great trip!

If you're flying... yes

If you're driving... no (but you will in 2008)

If you're going by cruise... no (but you will in 2008)

It takes about 6-8 weeks to get, depending how busy they are and it's about $97.00 (plus costs of the photos, like $10).

If you expedite it, it takes like 1-2 weeks I believe, but the price rises to like $180+/-.

Go to your local major post office and they have all the prices, info and applications there. Cheers.

Hi,
The Homeland Security Laws just went into effect and YES you will need a passport to Fly and go by way of Cruise ship. If you drive and good luck I understand it's a three day trip form the Texas border you will not need a passport. Both sides will accept your drivers license and birth certificate.
